Nostalgia.....and fine Dining!!

Last friday, Aashish gave me a call and invited me over to his place for dinner and an overnight stay. He informed me that our college friend Varun had come down from mumbai and was planning to spend a day at their place. My other option for spending the friday evening, was to stay in my PG room and watch a movie alone. So no prizes for guessing which option I choose. The prospect of catching up on old college days and dining on Ami's amazing cooking overpowered all my emotions of laziness and I spontaneously decided to make the 16kms journey to BEML gate. I had to go home to pick up some spare clothes for the next day and on the way brought a jar of rasagollas from the KC Das shop, near my place. Later, I came to know that this was Ami's favorite sweetdish. Considering all the tasty food she had fed me on my last two visits to their place, this was the least I could do for my bhabhi (she hates being called this!!!) I left late from home and managed to reach his place in little...

growth......in the face of hardships

My recent visit to my home, mumbai, had a specific goal in mind. On the outside, I had gone to sort out my tax saving investment plans, but internally, my aim was to invest for the future. It was all about PERSONAL GROWTH PLANNING. Yes, I have been working now for little over a year and this is the ideal time that one needs to sit down and plan ahead, so that the big money-hogging neccessities like house, car and probably marraige don't seem that bad the monsters they really are. So the plan I had in mind was to invest small for starters, but keep doin it regularly, so that a few years down the line I can inherit a fortune.....however small it may be. My dad had arranged an appointment with a financial consultant who shares his first and last name. So to say, I went with Ganesh Shanbhag to meet Ganesh Shanbhag!!!! ..... The former being the person, whom I have looked upto as my biggest mentor, MY DAD, and the latter, who in our first visit inspired me to look in a direction which t...

My first success as a project lead

Yesterday, I enjoyed the completion of my first project as a lead. The above statements is flawed in many ways. Firstly, the project isn't complete. Its just the first phase that is done. Secondly, I am not exactly a project lead here. Just the senior partner in a two member team. And third and the probably the most important one being that this phase was completed way behind schedule!!! I could pin-point a dozen reasons for the late delivery of the 6 designs, but in the end all that matters is that, it is the sole responsibility of the lead to ensure the completion of the phase on time, and that did not happen. Anyways, this blog is not about what went wrong.....its simply about the pleasure I gained, yesterday, on its completion!! I had always dreamed of this. Right from childhood I wanted to excell. I grabbed every opputunity I got, but success at the corporate level always eluded me. Even when I joined Ammos last year, fresh from my Masters, I was looking forward to an oppurt...
