As the sun sets in 2008.......

The last post of the year!! I am a novice blogger and yet, amongst my busy schedule of chip-designing, I managed to somehow jot down 40 odd blogs...... not bad eh, kanna?? This could mean two things: 1. I have discovered a hidden, inner talent. 2. I have no other work!!! A vast majority of you will believe in the latter ............and to be honest, I think you guys are right :( So, what were the highlights for me in 2008?? I started the year in a paying-guest accommodation in J.P nagar paying 5k for a small room with an attached bath and a common drawing room with a TV that hardly aired 20 channels. (Sometimes it tends to remind you of being in a prison cell). However, I end the year with my very own rented 1BHK apartment in B.E.M.L, with a TV that airs 100 channels thanks to my jhingalala connection. So, was that my new year resolution for 2008?... Nahhh.....but now I will claim it to be one and say that I achieved what I was hoping to achieve in 2008. Highlight No. 2 would probably...

Moms' will be Moms'....

I guess it will be a very happy moment for every mother to enter her son's 'home away from home' for the very first time. I am also guessing that it marks a very important stage for a mother to tag her son as 'grown up' and hence it becomes her prime responsibility to 'set up' his home for him. Well.....these are just guesses. I would never know the actual feeling....But, what I do know for sure is that it is a very proud moment for every son to welcome his mother for the very first time in 'his home'. My moment came on Saturday, 20th of December 2008!!! After all the hiccups of 'loss of network' on my moms' phone and no communication through the evening, I finally welcomed her to my home at around 9:30pm. Gauri had already arrived from Mysore in the evening and having both my sister and mother into my home felt great. Mom liked the house. She told me that the area surrounding my home reminded her of her old home in Hubli. I showed her ar...

Mumbai to China Town......

October 1981, a son is born in the Shanbhag household in Mumbai. After lots of pondering and consulting, the parents and grandparents arrive at various names and finally decided on one which they feel suits the little boy best - ' Prasan ' The name means ' Happy ', and they hoped that the boy would one day bring happiness into the family. Well.....I guess they are still waiting for that day to come. Don't look at me like that!!!.......I am trying hard yaar !!! ......and I won't let them down.... But times change and 27 years hence, the boy finds himself in the South Indian city of Bengaluru, designing chips and in November of 2008, he is made part of team that handles a project for a Chinese customer. He works with two of his Chinese colleagues who have flown down from Shanghai. He gets along well with them and after the end of the project, on the day of their departure their manager takes them out for 'team lunch' at Sindbad in the Pyramid Food court n...

First Anniversary

Yesterday, was my first anniversary. An anniversary to celebrate the ending of a journey that I never wished I took and I hope that no one ever needs to take. Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, it was exactly a year ago that I was discharged from the Hospital for the every first, and hopefully the last, time...... It was the November of 2007, when a bloody ' yenna rasscala' mosquito from Bengaluru, decided to bite me and pass on a malaria virus inside my body. I initially thought it was a flu . My initial blood tests didn't show up anything, but when the fever persisted for over 4 days, I was summoned by the next flight to Mumbai by my aunt, who had been consulting me over the phone. Further tests too proved nothing and when the fever continued for the 7th day running, I had to do the unthinkable - 'Get Admitted' My parents, friends and ex-roomates will tell you how scared I am off Doctors, needles and hospitals. The sight of blood gives me a neausea and hence, getting admi...
