One fine Sunday
This is a story about how two typical GSB lads spent a fine Sunday, in the city of Bengaluru. One of them (i.e 'Me'), titled 'Bachelor' (henceforth referred to as B) and the other, owing to the fact that his wife is back home in Mumbai, titled 'Forced Bachelor' (henceforth referred to as FB).
The situation was constrained by the condition that the FB's two cousin sisters', who were also in Bengaluru, had to be dropped to their maushi's place in Banashankari on Sunday morning. FB asked B to accompany him to Banashankari, mainly because his geographic skills at finding any place are world-class and by that I mean, to go from place A to place B, FB would end up roaming the entire world!!
Thus, the plan was that FB and B would drop FB's sisters' off and and on the way back stop at B's former fish-eating joint in JP Nagar and 'hog' (I mean it literally) some delicious sea-food for a change. The operation was code-named "Mission Swati" (No...don't be mislead....It's only the name of the restaurant where we wanted to hog)
It was 12pm by the time we started from BEML, FB was driving since he, 'apparently', knew the destination. He had been there just 3 days back but yet on Sunday afternoon, he had no idea where the place was. However, thanks to B's prior knowledge of going towards Mysore road, two wrong turns and three by-passers who gave us directions, we eventually reached the destination at 1:30pm.
We had to stop for some time at FB's relatives place where the girls were dropped off and that was quite a distinct relief. The atmosphere inside was fantastic. We were served cold water, fresh out of a copper container and the kanadda movie playing on Udaya TV, made us feel as if we were in the village of Ankola.
FB's sister had informed us before hand that they served only veg food at their home this went against our faith. "Vegetarian food on a Sunday" strongly opposes the GSB belief, and this belief is being followed very religiously by B and FB. We knew that the food served there was 100% home cooked and would be quite delicious, but we couldn't let the sacrifices of a few fishes go waste and hence, left the place at around 2pm on the premise that we had to go visit another friend.
FB handed the car keys to B for the return journey and after a small detour through the various stages in Banashankari, we eventually reached our destination for the climax of "Mission Swati". What followed after that was a heavenly barrage of God's own aashirwad to GSB's on this planet --
2 fish meals (comprising of 1 Kerala parota, 1 bowl of rice, 1 bangda curry, Marvai (teesre) sukha and 1 fish fry each) followed by 1 bangda fry, 1 kane (nagli) fry , 1 prawn sukha masala and 1 Anjal (surmai) fry. Both were so impressed that we even took two Marvai sukha parcels for the evening!!
Mission Swati was successfully completed. While driving back with out heavy stomachs, we decided to follow the 'Don' philosophy. Before proceeding, here is a low down on the 'Don' philosophy.
The 'Don' philisophy is a simple funda of 'Modern Management' famously advocated by our ex-roomate (a.k.a Hem-Lal) and states the following:
Imagine riding a gearless Active bike, at any point of the day, without a care of anyone around you at the speed of not more than 30km/hr with the following song humming in your mind - "Main hoon Don...."
Thanks to the 'Don' philosophy, we reached home at around 4pm.
The rest of the evening was spent at B's place, lazing around with 4 cans of Kingfisher draught, 2 Marvai sukhas and a little left over chinese food as we watched India knocked out off the ICC T20 worldcup........
Except for the very last bit, I am hoping that we see such days more often in the future.
