Recap 2022

 Hi Kapus,


It's the last day of the year 2022 and it has been a memorable one for all of us

It was quiet year overall and the biggest achievement this year is the fact that you started going to school and adjusted very well into it. Your class teacher is Ms Vitika and you have made a few friends by the name - Anaya Chaudhury, Micah Lucas Singh, Anvita, Mandana, Mayeem, Taksh and Shraddha

You also occasionally took the name of Reyansh, but last month. one day you came home with a bruised right wrist because he had bit you in school. Since then, we have obviously asked you to stay away from him...


One thing which got re-affirmed for us is your ability to pick things up by observation. The brief for us was simple enough. Show you something and you would learn is very fast. That's how you knew all the planets in the Solar System by your 3rd birthday

In this year though, we had two major sporting events which took place - The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup in Australia and the FIFA Football World Cup in Qatar. I made you sit with me to watch the matches and while you did not have the patience to try and understand the game, I did manage to pique your interest in something else - Flags!

We even got you a board game where you would have to insert the flags in countries around the world. In just a matter of 1 day - you practically knew almost all the flags of the world and not just the countries which participated in the World Cup

Here is a picture of all the countries which participated in the Cricket World cup 


And here is how you would identify the flag of country playing the Football World cup match and place it appropriately near the TV

I for one always loved flags and I know there are more people like me out there who are into Vexillology or the study of flags - but having you join that gang and being my closest partner in this domain is something that makes me real proud 


Hope this love of your remains forever ...

Ebbanad - II

(This is a continuation from Ebbanad - I. Please read that before continuing here) Our next destination was the forest shack where we were to camp that night. It was a 30 minute downhill trek and we were welcomed there with gracious helpings of veg pulao and curd rice. After rejuvenating ourselves, we began the main part of the trek – through the forests. Ever since our guide had joined us, he had kept telling us stories about their encounters with elephants and tigers. It had raised our hopes of catching a glimpse of a few along the way. But the important thing to remember was that the experience of the guides had been accumulated over decades of years and by calculating the average it was obvious that our chances of seeing any animal in one day was very bleak. A Fairytale....

It was the 4th of July, I was in Mumbai looking forward to what was probably the most important day of my life. It was also the day that the Rain gods showered the might of the rains, on this island city. Little did they know that the rains were the last thing to stop me from meeting the most important girl I had ever known and to express my feelings for her. It had been raining all morning and I had kept my fingers crossed that it would eventually stop. I delayed my departure from my home for an hour in that hope, but at 11am I simply put on my jacket and left. I told her that I would be reaching at around 12:30pm, considering all the delays in the train……and it was real heartening to see her concern for me, as she made sure that I call her multiple times during my train journey from Tilaknagar to Vile-Parle . It took me well over an hour to reach my destination. I know, I know…I choose train station to meet my loved one. Most unromantic…...that too considering that I was half soaked...
