Nostalgia - "A song to treasure"

Today evening, for some strange reason everyone in office, atleast in my cubicle became very nostalgic. Derrick and myself got together and started discussing about how school was back in the late 80's and early 90's. The discussion then went onto to the world famous Doordarshan channel, which was like the only source of entertainment!!

We discussed about all the serials from Ramayan, Mahabharat to Surabhi which was hosted by Renuka Sahane and Siddharth Kak. As compared to the 'soap operas' that run today, these serials ran only once a week and everyone used to look forward to them.
We even recounted the fact that there used to be a Hindi Movie every Sunday afternoon and on Saturday afternoon, they used to showcase one reginal movie every week.

Slowly and steadily, we couldn't help but remember on song that had won a million hearts at that point of time. It was a song about peace and diversity of our great nation and used to play multiple times daily and had literally captured the hearts of viewers. Just the mere discussion of the song, got my dear friend Muniaswamy to start singing and I simply had to join him in his quest with my broken, sada hua voice.
We tried to recount how different lines were sung in different languages. We even recalled our Tamilian, Telugu, Kannadiga, Gujrati and Malyali colleagues to try and recollect the lines that were sung in their respective languages for this song. There was also a small debate on the exact number of actors and actresses that starred in the picturization of the song which included names like Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun, Hema Malini, Jeetendra, Kamal Hassan and Shabana Azmi.

I am sure most of you know which song I am referring to...............

The one and only - "Mile sur mera tumhara...toh sur bane humara.."

If there was ever a National Song, this one would be the front runner for the winners' post. Such is the nostalgia of this song, that I even searched it on youtube and watched the whole video to refresh childhood memories.

Here is the link for those that would like to turn back their watches by a decade:
