Veggie Delight
For me, a month long trip to Singapore was not only about the work, travel, tall buildings and attractions but also about tasting the whole variety of food that was on offer. So, for the past 3 weeks both wifey and me took to the local offerings like a child would take to chocolates.
On a daily basis, we would switch between Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian, Indonesian and Filipino cuisines. While I practically covered the entire range of animals that was on offer, wifey tried her best to stick to Chicken as her preferred choice of meat.
There was, however, one distraction in her otherwise perfect pick when we happened to be at the 'Bread Talk' store which was offering their signature baked bread (with different varieties of meat embedded) at 10 for $10 and we saw a lady pick up all 10 pieces of a oval shaped bread which had, what appeared to be, a lot of floss on top of it.
We inquired and realized that it was pork floss and so many people were picking it that we decided we had to try it. We picked up two pieces and wifey took a small bite of it at home. That was probably the first time she had tasted something like it and it wasn't to be the last either. Pork floss has now become a regular visitor to our fridge, to my delight ofcourse, and wifey has probably liked it so much that if you ask her what is it about Singapore that you miss the most, don't be surprised if she says - BreadTalk's Pork Floss
We didn't eat outside everyday though. Every once in a while, wifey would conjure up some yummy home-made mix veg sabji or chicken curry based on whatever masalas' she would find in the local super market and we would fill our palate with it. But it was only last Saturday, 17th of August that it dawned upon me that it had been practically 3 weeks since we've had a full vegetarian meal!
So, finally on the 3rd Sunday of the 8th month of the year 2013, we picked ourselves up and headed to the 'Little India' street at the heart of Singapore. We didn't have trouble finding a nice South Indian hotel by the name 'Komal Villas' and we couldn't hide the smile on our face when we finally got to see the proper full Indian Vegeterian thali placed in front of us....
'Thank God for making vegetables', I said to myself and started eating what was probably the best meal we had for quite some time in Singapore.
With our stomachs' full we headed to Plaza Singapura for some shopping and by the time it was evening, I gave in to my temptations and finished the day with a 'double patty beef cheeseburger'!
