The AFI scare
Hey Bumpsie,
A few weeks back, when we went for your Mumma's routine scan, we were told that your growth and movements are fine, but the AFI value was quite reduced.
The AFI or Amniotic Fluid Index is the amount of fluid around the uterus in which you are currently swimming. This number can vary from 5 to 20 and anything above 10 is termed as a good score.
In the scan, the score reported was just 8 and this meant that we had to take some extra precaution to make sure that you were comfortable in the uterus
The Doctor suggested your Mumma to increase her intake of water and along with that she had to take some injections (two days in a row) after which she had to also start taking a tablet and some Agririch powder which was full of Amino acids
I'll be honest, this was a bit of a tough time for us - if the AFI did not increase, we were told that you would arrive early (as a pre-mature baby) and would need additional care and though this is not something we need to worry about a lot, it was still not the ideal scenario
This was also the time, your Parle Ajji and Abu arrived in Bengaluru and we had to understand that they would take their time to settle down and be ready to welcome you. Your Parla Abu has a lot of Neurological issues and it was going to take both him and us an extra effort to settle him in - I am sure that at this time you would have heard you Mumma get angry and scold him a lot, but please ignore and forgive her. Remember that in life, we sometimes have to take steps, not because we like them, but because that is the right thing to do at that point of time
So, after all the extra precautions and rest and a NST (non-stress test which monitored your heart beat and movements), we went for a follow-up scan yesterday and we got the news that the AFI number has increased to 10!
This was a happy moment for us - mainly because we knew that this meant more freedom for you to move around and show us that you are comfortable
Mumma and me almost celebrated this moment by treating ourselves to a nice buffet lunch at HQ in In-orbit mall (which is currntly our most favourite mall in Whitefield)
The Doctor has advised more care and rest, but there is good chance that your official Birthdate will definitely be in the year 2019!
Until next time - Ciao...
Regards,
Dadoo
