Creativity.....redefined!!

I was just checking my blog and realized that the maximum blogs I have managed to write in a month is 6. I thought I could beat my own record by publishing one more post before the end of the month. So, I have decided to publish one incident that happened in July, which I can't forget for all the wrong reasons. I was speaking to a friend of mine 'C', who happens to be the Asst. Marketing Manager of I-flex solutions (soon to be renamed Oracle Financial Services - OFS). She had just watched a very very verbose review of the Priyanka Chopra starrer 'Love Story 2050' by Rajeev Masand and was obviously quite frustrated. She mentioned to me that the movie involves time travel and unknowingly had woken up Mr. Einstein inside me. As the conversation progressed, I asked her about her job profile and she replied saying that she is responsible for coming up with different ideas to market their core banking product. Thats when the dead cells in my brain woke up and came up with...

A Conversation

After the serial blasts that rocked Bengaluru on Friday afternoon, everyone reading this might obviously expect me to write something about it. However, I thought I would post something a little different, mainly because all that was to be seen has already been broadcast on the news channels and all that was to be written is already out in the papers. As the news of serial blast trickled into my cubicle on Friday evening, there was a sense of panic, especially among the locals, which was well addressed by the management. As things started to settle down in the evening, the staff started to leave one by one. Me and a few other colleagues decided to stay back a little late to beat the traffic. That's when I was witness to a weird little conversation. I didn't know what to make of this conversation between two colleagues that comes on the same evening that the city has been rocked and two people have lost their lives. The most likely thought that comes to mind after hearing someth...

Einstein's Universe

During our childhood days, all of us have had special dreams and inspirations - winning a world cup for India, landing on the moon, becoming Miss Universe etc. Most of these remains dreams even till today and keep prompting the question in our minds - "What if??" One such crazy desire of mine was to become a scientist!!! I was always enthralled by the subjects of Physics and Mathematics. Even though, like every other kid, I used to curse the subject during exam times, I used to love reading about it. It wasn't until after my graduation that I had started to realize the importance of the subjects and the implications they have and can have on the world around us. Today the only solace I have was that I work in the field of 'Semiconductors' that is a branch of the Physics stream. However, you will find me constantly reading about the other streams in my free time. Couple of months back, a book entered my life and brought about a slight re-kindling of one such candle...

Jai Maharashtra

The other day while discussing something related to tax and state of economy, my dad brought out and proudly flashed his new smart card license. I was happy to see that, finally, the Government of Maharashtra had decided to go global by issuing sleek plastic cards with a chip embedded inside. At that moment, I removed my driving license from the back zipper in my wallet and examined it. It was in a pretty bad shape. I owned the older book style version of a driving license which had almost come apart inside my wallet. I saw that it was held together by a thin string of plastic that I had used to wrap my license in. I realized that I must have removed it after more than a year. I don’t own a vehicle in Bangalore and thankfully I haven’t had to produce my license, to the kapus or Karnataka police, on the few occasions when I drove my friends’ bike. One other thing I noticed was that the address registered on my license was the older address, which meant that my license could no longer b...

Teach India

This morning I paid a visit to the State Bank of India, Deonar branch. I still remember spending 3 – 4 hrs there during my last visit to simply open a PPF account. Today I had just been there to deposit some cash and I didn’t expect to go through the same ordeal again. As I picked up the deposit slip and started filling in the details, I noticed that a there was an unusually large crowd in the bank. I also happened to notice that the majority were students. I was just about done filling one foil, when I was approached in my left side by an elderly man and his son. The man was dressed in a somewhat worn out creamish pathani and adorned a whitish headgear normally seen on any muslim man’s head. His son, meanwhile, was about 5’6”, lean and quiet and wore a simple unbranded jeans and a light blue tee. The old man pointed my attention to a form he was holding and explained that it was for his sons’ admission to a commerce college. They had come to deposit cash here so that the bank could is...

Blessed

“Once upon a time on earth, there lived a very hard working farmer. He toiled hard day and night to sow mango plants in his field with the sole aim to feed him and his family. However, inspite of all his efforts the mango trees never bore any fruits. After a patient wait, he went up to Lord Vishnu and asked: “Dear Lord, Will we be getting any mangoes this year?” Lord Vishnu assured him, not to be afraid. Vishnu, who was by now frustrated by the functioning of the mango god ‘Mag’, went up to him and asked why his subjects weren’t yet blessed with mangoes despite all their efforts. ‘Mag’ replied saying that he wanted to test the humans more. He didn’t care much about their earthily problems and was more interested in keeping the mangoes for himself. After hearing this, Vishnu could not take it any more and stormed out of Mag’s palace. Vishnu was however still concerned about his subjects and went up to the god of Jamuns – ‘Ja’ for advice. On hearing Vishnu’s story, ‘Ja’ suggested that he...

Long Live Rajni Saar

I guess I must have completely lost my mind or become delusional yesterday. For some strange reason I was watching the telecast of the movie 'Mother 98' starring the evergreen Rekha. I must say the director, Sawan Kumar, has worked very hard to make a pathetic movie, using such vahiyat PJ’s, that it actually makes me think that my PJ’s are intelligent. The movie shows that Rekha messes around with three yesteryear heroes – Jeetendra, Randhir Kapoor and Rakesh Roshan in order to finance her fathers medical cost. All her efforts do not succeed to save her ailing father but definitely succeed in getting her pregnant. Than on the advice of some social service lady she convinces each of her suitors that ‘he’ is the father of the child and asks them to send her a cheque every month to be able to take care of the child. She than escapes to Mauritius and registers her name there as Mrs. Brittannia. On being questioned on why she chose such an absurd name she says: Rekha: “I was at th...
