Coffee with 'Brad'
We were in Coorg the week before last and amongst the many coffees' we had there, one was unique. The host family of our homestay gave us the option of walking down a few steps to the banks of the river Cauvery, where he said he could serve us our evening coffee and biscuits. So, around 5pm on a fine Saturday evening, we made the short walk to the river bank and spent some time clicking photos and enjoying the sounds of the river, which was obviously very calm and quiet during this time of the year.
A little while later, we saw Gourish, the ever-smiling and friendly homestay help walk up with a little bag which contained a long coffee flask, a couple of cups and a small packet of my favourite 'Parle-G' biscuits. He was not alone though - following closely on his heels was the even more friendly dog who was fondly called 'Brad'.
Gourish gave us the bag and headed back to let us enjoy the coffee, but Brad had other plans. I had patted him the same morning on the lawn outside our cottage and had become good friends with him, and he knew it was time for him to take advantage of that!
So, as we laid out the contents of the coffee bag, he just hovered around us and looked on with anxious eyes as I pulled out the biscuit pack. On the first command of 'sit Brad' he followed suit and his mouth literally started watering as I started putting out the biscuits one by one which he galloped down with equal enthusiasm.
He sat there till we were done and then quietly followed us back to the cottage wagging his tail in sheer delight. There is a saying that goes 'A Dog is a man's best friend'.....so why not share a coffee with him.
